久留米大学先端癌治療研究センター

　わが国では、がんは国民の死亡原因のトップとなり、毎年３０数万人ががんで死亡しています。この国民病ともいえるがんの克服は、医療の最も重要な課題でありますが、がん医療は、地道な基礎研究の集積を基盤に、近年長足の進歩を遂げてきました。２１世紀を迎えた今日、新しいがん治療の開発とがん患者さん１人１人に適した医療（最適化医療）の提供は極めて大切ながん研究者の使命となっています。当先端癌治療研究センター(Research Center for Innovative Cancer Therapy)におきましても、1997年の開設以来、がんに関する革新的治療法の開発研究を展開し、その成果は、実際の患者さんの治療に還元されています。たとえば、テーラーメイドがんペプチドワクチン療法は、新規開発されたがん治療法であり、実際にがん患者さんにワクチンが投与され、その効果が確認されています。2011年「高度医療/第３項先進医療」として厚生労働省の承認を受けることができました。
　先端癌治療研究センターは、４つの部門、すなわちがんワクチン分子部門、肝癌部門、分子標的部門、臨床研究部門から、構成されています。このホームページには、それぞれの部門の研究の課題や成果が分かりやすく解説されています。ご覧いただき、がんに対する理解を深めて頂ければ幸いです。
　今後も、先端癌治療研究センターは新たながん治療法の開発の研究を進めて参りますので、益々のご指導を賜りますようお願い申し上げます。

　Cancer is the leading cause of death in Japan. More than 30,000 people die of some form of cancer in Japan every year. Finding effective treatments for cancer is one of the most important challenges facing modern medicine. Cancer therapies have progressed remarkably in recent years as the result of constant study and research. In the 21st century, a major mission of medical research will be to develop new cancer therapies, especially personalized treatments tailored to each individual with cancer. At our Research Center for Innovative Cancer Therapy, we have been carrying out intensive research and development of innovative cancer therapies since 1997, and we have worked very hard to apply our results to patients in the clinical setting. For example, we have developed personalized cancer vaccines that have been tested and found to be effective in actual clinical trials. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved this therapy as an innovative medical treatment under their Kohdo-iryo (advanced health care) assessment system in 2011.
　The Kurume University Research　Center for Innovative Cancer Therapy consists of 4 departments, the Cancer Vaccine Development Division, the Liver Cancer Research Division, the Molecular Targeting Therapeutics Division and the Clinical Research Division. The present website has been created to help explain the research themes and results of each division, and we hope that it will help deepen your understanding of innovative cancer therapies.
